Last Week!!

Last Blog Term 1!!

It just seemed like the other day that I was learning how to Blog - now I'm writing the last one!!   I'm really not sure where the last few weeks of Term 1 have gone.

It has been an incredibly busy term and all the children have worked extremely hard.  I am very pleased with the progress they have all made and with their attitude and behaviour they bring to the classroom.  Working full time has been a lot of hard work but I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this fantastic bunch of children who you should all be very proud of.  I am sad about handing them over next term but I will be in the school 3 days a week next term so will be keeping a close eye on them!!

This week the children have been doing an Inquiry into the Commonwealth Games which they have been enjoying.  With the wet weather will have been able to watch some of the games during interval and lunchtimes.

We also had a visit from Detective Kate Bartlett who spoke to the children about Cyber Bullying and Cyber Safety.  Hopefully the children have all taken aboard her messages about the seriousness of bullying online and about keeping themselves safe online.  A follow up session is going to be held for parents early next term.

It was Grandparents Day yesterday and it was lovely to have so many grandparents visit Room 7 and then attend assembly.  We demonstrated to them ways in which we can learn math now with programmes on the computer and also played a math game with them.  The children were interested in hearing about some of the things that the grandparents did when they were at school.

I hope you all have a lovely break and the children have some rest and relaxation ready for Term 2.

Week 8

A huge thank you to all children for their effort last week at camp.  For many of them they were pushed outside their comfort zones but with their positive attitude and encouragement from others they were able to complete activities which they found difficult.
While exhausting all the children were a pleasure to work with and the class spirit and teamwork increased over the week.  There is a folder with hundreds of camp photos which children have access to so please take a look.  A final huge thanks to our wonderful parents who supported us at camp - it really is impossible to undertake a camp like this without you.
This week has been a bit messy with camp post activities being completed and tired children!  I'm sure everyone is looking forward to a well deserved long weekend.
With camp done and only 3 weeks to go we will really be knuckling down until the end of term and getting into some reading, writing and maths!!
Enjoy the long weekend.

Week 6

Wow - can't believe that we are off to camp on Monday!  It has been a super busy week with athletics, swimming, Mike King and camp prep.  A huge congratulations to all our class members who competed or helped at the athletics and swimming.  You all performed to the best of your ability and your behaviour was of the highest standard.

Unfortunately I missed Mike King on Wednesday and his message of "I Am Hope" but the children who did attend really enjoyed it and we had a good discussion of what they took out of his story.

The children are getting very excited about camp.  This week we have been doing some pre camp activities.  Hopefully everyone is getting their gear organised and has everything they require.  Please let me know as soon as possible if there is anything you don't have.  I will bring some spare wetsuits.  A reminder that a container of baking is also required. The weather is looking good at this stage!

Congratulations to Israel and Jahnae who were announced Student Leaders this afternoon.  Also to Daniel who is Deputy Leader.  I know they will represent Room 7 and Rosebank School with pride.

Have a great weekend and if you could ensure your child gets plenty of sleep in preparation for a busy week ahead that would be great!

Week 5

An early blog this week as I am away on leave tomorrow and Monday.  Miss Bennington will be in Room 7 on Friday and then the children not going to athletics will join Mrs Weild in Room 5 on Monday.

The countdown is now on for camp.  Thanks to everyone for getting their permission slips in and to those parents who came to our meeting last evening. See below for the camp programme.

It has been another busy week and I can't believe that we have almost completed 5 weeks.  The last of our PAT testing has been done so I now have reading, spelling and maths groups sorted.

Mrs Sharpin was teaching Room 7 on Monday and mentioned what a wonderful class they were - it's always great to hear positive feedback from other teachers.

Good luck to those children who are competing at the SO Athletics on Monday!

Week 4

Week 4

We were very lucky with the weather today and everyone competed with enthusiasm during our Athletic Day.  Well done to everyone.  There were some great performances but also a lot of encouragement and support of others.  A huge thank you to all Room 7 who were amazing helpers to me this morning and this afternoon setting up and putting away all the equipment.  You are all a pleasure to work with and you made my job so much easier today.

This week we also got across to South Otago High School for some more athletics.  We played a fantastic new game called Multi Sport which the children loved.

We also did some PAT reading testing and will continue with maths next week.

Thank you to all parents who have returned permission/medical slips for camp.  These are now due.  A camp meeting will take place on Wednesday 5pm - please note the change of time.

Week 3

Well, another week down!  It has been another busy week in Room 7.  The children were excited to have their first session at technology.  We were at the High School again on Thursday participating in a range sports which were organised by some Year 13s.  The children had a great time and can't wait until their next session. We have even managed to get some reading, writing and maths underway this week!

Next week we will appoint the school council members and on Wednesday everyone will compete in our School Athletics Day.  Thanks to the parents who have offered to help on this day.  Thanks also for the much improved turnout of sun hats and correct sports uniforms.

Welcome

Hi All - Welcome to Room 7's Blog
I will try to update this weekly and keep you posted on what Room 7 has been up to.  This is new to me so I am learning as I go.

It was great to meet with everyone over the last 2 days for Parent Interviews.  It was a valuable information gathering session.

Room 7 has had a great start to the term.  I have been so impressed with their effort, attitude and behaviour.  They have worked hard this week to put some art on the wall and complete their 'All About Me' projects.  Well done to those who have also presented their 'My Story' to the class.  This week we have also done some fitness testing and have continued with athletics.
